Morganton is a city in and the county seat of Caldwell County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 16,918 at the 2010 census. Morganton is approximately 75 miles (121 km) northwest of Charlotte. Morganton is one of the principal cities in the Hickory-Lenoir-Morganton, NC Metropolitan Statistical Area. A site five miles north of Morganton has been identified as the Mississippian culture chiefdom of Joara, occupied from AD 1400 to AD 1600. This was also the site of Fort San Juan, built in 1567 by a Spanish expedition as the first European settlement in the interior of North America, 40 years before the English settlement of Jamestown, Virginia.

The City of Morganton Municipal Auditorium (CoMMA) opened its doors officially on November 6, 1986, to a sold-out audience of the Broadway national tour of The Tap Dance Kid. Funded by a local bond referendum, Morgantons then new performance place seated more than 1,000 with state the art technical complements. The lobby was designed to serve as an art and display gallery for the enjoyment and enlightenment of theatre and concert-goers.
Located on the College Street site where Grace Hospital had stood for more than 50 years, CoMMA set a standard early on as one of the best performing arts venues in the Southeast. MainStage Morganton has been the flagship performance series since Day One. It has consistently offered more than 20 international, national and regional artists and artist group in performance on the theatres 40-foot proscenium stage.
Today, CoMMA continues to host a wide variety of concerts, plays, Broadway musicals, public meetings, worship services, and private gatherings in its service to the people of Morganton and Caldwell County.

Our family has been growing apples in this location since 1955, and the orchard its self dates to 1930!
